SellabandSteve Clark looks at an interesting concept for recording artists Sellaband is a social network website set up in August 2006 to enable aspiring musicians to raise the finance required to produce and promote an album. It has offices based in Amsterdam and was founded by Johan Vosmeijer (ex Sony/BMG), Pim Betist (ex Shell) and Dagmar Heijmans (ex Sony BMG). Pim Betist left Sellaband earlier this year, but Johan Vosmeijer remains as Managing Director, with Dagmar Heijmans as Music Director.Sellaband works by allowing individuals to invest in a share in a performing artist. The initial model set a goal of US$50,000 to be achieved by investors purchasing shares of US$10 in the artist. An individual buying a ‘part’ of US$10 is classed as a ‘believer’ and is entitled to benefits, such as a free copy of the CD once the album is made...
